Spend three unforgettable nights beneath the stars in the vast beauty of Big Bend National Park. This campout is more than an outdoor adventure — it’s a chance to reconnect with yourself, build lasting friendships, and experience the healing power of community in recovery + sobriety.

Each day offers a choice of guided experiences: paddle through the towering cliffs of Santa Elena Canyon, hike to breathtaking mountain overlooks, soak in the Rio Grande hot springs, or climb among the desert’s stunning rock formations. Professional instructors and wilderness guides will provide all the gear, safety, and support you need — so you can focus on being fully present in the moment.

At its heart, this campout is about connection — gathering around the fire, sharing stories under the night sky, and discovering the strength that comes from adventure and community. Together, we’ll celebrate recovery, embrace the outdoors, and return home with renewed hope, courage, and joy.

Logistics

CAMPING + SUPPLIES: We will camp together in Chisos Basin at our group sites; tent camping only. Tents and sleep kits (bag and pad) are available to reserve; if you have your own please bring them (make sure they are adequate for this climate, reach out if in doubt).

MEALS: Recovery Outside will be supplying breakfast, lunch, and dinner options for Friday and Saturday, plus breakfast Sunday. PREPARE TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN THURSDAY DINNER. If you have dietary restrictions we will do our best to accommodate, but please consider bringing extra food, as we will have limited supplies.

WEATHER: Big Bend can have big temperature swings — bring warm layers, sun protection, and rain gear just in case.

AMENITIES: Campsites include basic restroom facilities, potable water, but NO showers or electricity--we will bring a power bank, available to everyone, and there are coin showers in town. Cell service is limited — plan accordingly.

PARKING: Parking is limited; carpool if possible.

COMMUNICATIONS: We’ll use a WhatsApp group for updates and coordination during the event.

RESTRICTIONS: No pets, glass containers, or amplified music. Please practice Leave No Trace ethics to help protect this incredible place.

COST: To reserve your spot it is a $45 deposit, refundable upon completion of the event (transaction fee not included). You will be responsible for paying your own entry fee to Big Bend, $30. If you need financial assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

ADDITIONAL INFO: You will be emailed a link with participant information the week of the event. It will include a suggested packing list, maps, schedules, etc.

CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations must be submitted a week in advance to receive a refund.
